Victory in Europe Day, generally known as VE Day or V-E Day, is a day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces on 8 May 1945
May Day is traditionally held on a Monday but will be put back to Friday 8 May 2020. The holiday will form part of a three-day weekend of commemorative events for VE Day.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission
There were 7 servicemen from Barnwood that lost their lives during WWII. They are remembered at St Lawrence Church.

We have decided that KS2 will make merit cards for those who died in the second world war from Barnwood. Then when we're back we will laminate them and take them to the church to put on the gravestones.
We think it will be a nice way to commemorate those soldiers on this day.
(I have attached is a template for the merit card, it's super simple! If you want it to look authentic, you could tea-stain it or colour it. Rather than having to print it, you could try making your own!)
