Our Art Curriculum aims to; Engage, Inspire, and Challenge.

At Barnwood C of E Primary School, we believe that a quality Art curriculum should develop a culture where all children can engage in high quality creativity, enjoyment and challenge. Children are given the tools to become proficient in the seven elements of art (line, shape, colour, texture, space, form and value) which they use to experiment, create and invent their own works and develop themselves as artists and open a channel for self-expression.

We aim to provide an Art curriculum, from EYFS to Year 6, which follows a clear pathway of progression. and fosters a positive attitude to lifelong learning which is driven by our core vision of ‘loving our neighbour and working together to be the best we can be, for the good of all’.

We will inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening, developing appropriate key vocabulary that enables our children to communicate effectively when showing an appreciation for their own work and that of others developing self-esteem and resilience, whilst gaining the opportunity to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

Our Christian values provide a strong foundation upon which to build and St Lawrence Church with our surrounding community is placed at the heart of our school. Through art and design, children will explore British values within a multicultural society and how this compares to their wider world as they develop acceptance, tolerance and respect of themselves and others. They will gain an understanding of how art contributes to different cultures, eras, creativity, wealth and self-expression.
