Music
Mrs Ferne
At Barnwood Church of England Primary School, we believe that a quality Music curriculum should develop the children’s love of music appreciation and performance that flows through the school life whilst they are pupils with us. We will insure an appreciation of our rich and varied musical heritage using it within our daily worship., Christian celebrations and musical performance in school or within the local community of Barnwood, Gloucestershire and beyond.
We aim to provide a music curriculum, from EYFS to Year 6, which follows a clear pathway pf progression which fosters a positive attitude to lifelong learning and is driven by our core vision of ‘loving our neighbour and working together to be the best that we can be, for the good of all’. Through immersing children in a wide variety of carefully selected musical material pupils will have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Children will be able to deliver, compose, listen and appraise to all genre of musicality, form opinions and play a wide variety of tunes and non-tuned instruments.
By the time our children are ready to leave Barnwood for secondary education they would have experienced an eclectic musical genre culminating in a live performance of a full orchestra at a music festival.
Musicians at Barnwood bring together the whole school family and Christian values to provide a strong foundation upon which to build with St Lawrence Church and our surrounding community at Barnwood placed at the heart of our school. Children learn to develop and respect tolerance of other cultures and an understanding of British values within the wider global community through music from around the world.
