Physical Education
Miss Joyce
At Barnwood C of E Primary School, we believe that a quality Physical Education is central to the development of a healthy lifestyle for our children. We will develop a culture where all children can experience enjoyment and challenge through physical activity whist gaining the opportunity to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. We aim to make competition relevant and to both activate and sustain participation through positive experiences.
We will inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening, developing appropriate vocabulary so our children are able to communicate effectively, supportively and respectfully as individuals and as part of a team.
We aim to provide a Physical Education curriculum, from EYFS to Year 6, that fosters a positive attitude to lifelong learning and is driven by our core vision of ‘loving our neighbour and working together to be the best we can be, for the good of all’. We will develop social skills that build self-esteem and enable children to show resilience and perseverance when taking on new challenges as well as learning how best to support others.
Our Christian values provide a strong foundation upon which to build and St Lawrence Church with our surrounding community of Barnwood are placed at the heart of our school. Children learn to develop and respect tolerance of other cultures and an understanding of British Values within the wider global community whilst taking part in inter-house and inter-school events within Gloucestershire and gaining an understanding of health and sport within the wider world around us. We look to extend to opportunities we can provide and work closely with the SSN (School Sports Network) to offer a variety of experiences including CPD for staff and extra-curricular clubs.
