Religious Education
Mrs West
As a Church of England primary school, Religious Education, from EYFS to Year 6, is of the highest priority. At Barnwood we recognise that our Christian vision and values are at the heart of our school and RE provides many opportunities for the exploration of both our specific Christian vision and values and also our British values.
Through religious education pupils will develop positive attitudes towards themselves, other people and the diverse world around them. We believe it is important not only to learn about religion, but also, and perhaps more importantly, to learn from religion.
By the time pupils leave to continue their educational journey they are able to form and express their own grounded opinions., They will have an understanding of their own religious beliefs and values, as well as that of other peoples and be able to develop their role within the wider global community.
As a Church Aided School, Barnwood Primary has followed the recommendations of the Diocesan Board of Education that the Religious Education (R.E.) curriculum, from EYFS to Year 6, should be based on the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus, a copy of which is available to view on request. Additional materials, for example on teaching the Christian faith using Understanding Christianity, are used in order to develop our school’s distinctive Christian foundation.
