Visitors to our school
We are always keen to welcome visitors to our school to enrich our curriculum, raise aspiration and provide opportunities for our children to meet people from different professions and differents walks of life. Our children, and staff, love finding out about the different types of jobs and vocations that are out there as well as the different career paths people have taken. If this is something you feel you would like to share with our school community, please let us know.

Science Geek Book Club - led by a real life author and scientist
Children from Y3-6 attended Science Geek bookclubs led by local author and scientist, Petra Crofton.
During the first bookclub we read an adventure novel with an 'eco' theme. We discussed the story, explored themes like climate, rainforest wildlife and how to look after the planet in a caring and creative way.
We wrote stories, made art and played games.
During the second club we read an adventure novel with a 'science and faith' theme. We did quizzes about astronomy and dinosaurs, handled rocks and fossils and discussed questions about science and faith.
During a third club we wrote our own adventure story all about wildlife, paleontology and conservation.
It was great fun and the children were amazing!
Richard Graham MP
The MP for Gloucester, Richard Graham, visited our school and met with our Student Council.

Richard Graham MP spoke to us about planting trees on an old landfil site and also about the history of Gloucester talks.
Carducci String Quartet
An internationally renowned Anglo-Irish string quartet based in the UK, the versatile and award-winning Carducci String Quartet, visited us and performed to thwe whole school.
Composing together
The Carducci String Quartet worked with us and helped us compose our own Barnwood piece of music. It was fantastic.
Reverend Rob
We have strong links with our local Church and Reverend Rob visits us at least every term to lead our collective worship. Reverend Rob also meets us at St Lawrence Church when we visit. We hold special services in Church for Harvest, Christmas, Mothering Sunday and Easter and our families can often join us. We also visit to learn more about our local Church, how it supports our local community and the traditions within the Church like Baptism and Holy Communion. We also hold our Leavers' Service in St Lawrence Church and sometimes on a fifth Sunday we host Church in School in our school hall.
A visit from a stonemason
Sebastian Rasch, a local stonemason, came along to the school to show our children the art of stone carving.

Schoolbeat - Gloucestershire Police
PC Kim Murphy visited school to speak with all children about the role of the police and how to stay safe. PC Kim Murphy also spent time with Y5 and Y6 and discuseed internet safety, online relationships and drugs and peer influence.

A moth expert visits Barnwood C of E Primary School
The moth expert talked to us about his work and what he has to know and do.
We had a lesson with the moth expert in the hall and then he led workshops outside for us.
In the workshops we were able to observe live moths and pupas.
We learned so much about moths and what we can do to help stop the decline of moths.
Awesome Science Week - led by Petra Crofton and St Lawrence Church
I have enjoyed coming into school for a few assemblies too, talking about my books Science Geek Christy and her Eco-logbook and Science Geek Sam and his secret logbook. Barnwood Primary is such a lovely school to be part of, and I always enjoy coming in - whether it's a workshop for Y6 or an all-school activity. Thank you for inviting me.
Awesome Science Week
Petra Crofton, a local scientist and author, visited the school with a team from St Lawrence Church to deliver an Awesome Science week for YR – Y6.
Petra tells us, 'It was a wonderful experience for me, other leaders, helpers and participants as well.
Y6 children proved fantastic co-leaders and each year group, divided into small groups, went round five 'stations' with themed activities, from planets and fossils to birds, dinosaurs and meteorites. The stations were very hands-on.
We ended with a short reflection on how God made humans in his own image, and that all of us are unique and much loved.'
Open the Book
Almost every week the Open the Book team visit us in school to lead our collective worship and bring Bible stories to life.
We really look forward to Open the Book visiting us.
The team act out Bible stories and help us to understand what the message of the story is.
Each week different children are invited to take part.
A Year 3 pupil said, 'It helps us to think about what we could do to make a positive difference in our lives and for others.'
