History

Mrs Ferne

At Barnwood C of E Primary School, we believe that a quality History curriculum should inspire and spark our children’s curiosity about the past and to want know more. Children will gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world through a line of historical enquiry enabling children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, acquire a growing bank of appropriate historical vocabulary and develop perspective and judgement.

We aim to provide a History curriculum, from EYFS to Year 6, which follows a clear pathway of progression. and fosters a positive attitude to lifelong learning and is driven by our core vision of ‘loving our neighbour and working together to be the best we can be, for the good of all’.

Our Christian values provide a strong foundation upon which to build and St Lawrence Church with our surrounding community of Barnwood are placed at the heart of our school. Through the teaching of History children begin to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time within the wider global community on a social, political, cultural and economic level.
